Here is handmade Persian Bukhara or Bokhara rug, also known as Turkmen carpet Kilim. Such types of rugs are originated in Central Asia and are produced in large quantity in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran today. These rugs as a whole or its components can be used for various purposes, like floor covering, door hangings, door mats and tribal style bags.
In ancient times almost all Turkmen rugs were produced by gypsy tribal people with locally obtained materials like wool and vegetable dyes. These people used geometrical patterns and textures which were varied from tribe to tribe. Nowadays the rugs produced in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran are sold in the brand name of Turkmen rugs, which are made of synthetic colors, cotton warps and wool pile. Turkmenistan is supposed best production region for Bukhara rugs. Turkmenistan Carpet Day officially became a national holiday, which is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of May.
Bokhara rugs are one of the easiest rug types to be identified from other. Whenever you inspect Bokhara rug, it should be kept in mind that there is vast variety in the term of quality ranging from poor to high. Mostly Bokhara rugs would be in deep shades of red with repeating patterns of octagonal floral shape medallions, which are commonly known as “Gul”. These Gul’s or medallions are commonly in dark blue, black and brown color with ivory accents. These Gul’s are used to identify the origin or source of the rug.
