In ancient times almost all Turkmen rugs were produced by gypsy tribal people with locally obtained materials like wool and vegetable dyes. These people used geometrical patterns and textures which were varied from tribe to tribe. Nowadays the rugs produced in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran are sold in the brand name of Turkmen rugs, which are made of synthetic colors, cotton warps and wool pile. Turkmenistan is supposed best production region for Bukhara rugs. Turkmenistan Carpet Day officially became a national holiday, which is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of May.
